Sanofi Group Senior Scientist, Route Scouting in Waltham, Massachusetts
The Process Chemistry, Route Scouting team part of the CMC organization in Sanofi is responsible for the design and preliminary development of NDA route for commercial manufacturing of Active Principle Ingredients. To reinforce our expertise in organic chemistry, we are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our Chemical Development group as a Senior Scientist specialized in route scouting. Under the direction of the Head of Process Chemistry, the primary responsibility of this role is to perform and oversee development activities, focusing on NDA Route Scouting and NDA Route Process Development while managing internal as well as outsourced laboratory activities. Depending on projects, this role may also oversee the activity of one or more collaborators.
Design novel synthetic pathway for products entering development. Knowledge of digital tools (CASP programs like Scifinder-n or Documentary database like Reaxys etc.).
Conduct early stage route scouting in laboratory to demonstrate synthetic viability.
Use all imaginable chemistry tools and methods to develop new synthetic pathways (photochemistry, biochemistry, flow chemistry, electrochemistry, on-line analysis, High Throughput Screening, structural analysis (NMR, UPLC/MS)).
Analyze experimental data to drive synthetic experimental plans.
Assist in the design, planning and execution of multi-step experimental studies to provide safe, efficient, robust and scalable processes.
Investigate scale-up of optimized reactions.
Depending on projects, manage outsourced laboratory activities: establishing RFP, supervising activities at CDMOs, validating reports for outsourced activities.
Integrate project teams by working in close collaboration with analytical chemists, process engineer, pilot plant experts and project manager within the Pharmaceutical Development group.
Communicate scientific results in a clear, concise, and accurate manner via electronic laboratory notebook documentation, development report, project discussion and presentation.
Draft and review technical reports, external publications and patent applications.
PhD in organic or synthetic chemistry with a minimum of 4years of experience within the field of Route Scouting, Chemical Process Design and/or Early Process development or Master’s degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant industry experience.
Demonstrated expertise in modern synthetic organic chemistry.
Knowledge in at least one of the following areas: Analytics, Biocatalysis, Flow Chemistry, High Throughput Experiments, Process Engineering.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to operate with flexibility in a changing environment and with tight deadlines.
Knowledge of digital tools, Data Analysis, DOE and/or Thermo-kinetic Modeling.
Experience in the management of subcontractors.
Strategic and innovative thinker with a track record of fresh insightful thinking by developing creative approaches to processes and practices.
French language skills.
