Sanofi Group Senior Scientist, Ex Vivo Gene Therapy, Hemoglobinopathies, Rare Blood Disorders in Waltham, Massachusetts
We are seeking a highly motivated and creative PhD level scientist to perform hematopoietic stem cell biology and gene editing experiments in support of development of next generation gene therapies for hemoglobinopathies. The successful candidate will be an integral member of a research team responsible for generating supporting preclinical research data for drug discovery programs. The candidate will be responsible for the scientific leadership and execution of preclinical research work, including characterization of gene edited cell products, development of assays to support clinical trials and biological validation of novel therapeutic genetic targets. The ideal candidate is expected to effectively work within cross-functional teams in a matrix environment. The ideal candidate possesses experience in one or more of the following: sickle cell disease, hematological biology, hematopoietic stem cell biology and/or gene editing/genomics, including analytical methodologies. A working knowledge of drug discovery research is a plus.
Work with multidisciplinary, internal and external project teams to design, execute, analyze and document experiments
Perform detailed characterization of gene editing of hematopoietic stem cells using state of the art analytical techniques and technologies
Provide scientific expertise to develop and execute experiments to establish and support key assays in the clinical development of ex vivo gene therapy products
Work with manufacturing research teams to implement research findings and assay development into process optimization
Identify and validate novel genetic targets that could represent potential treatments for patients with hemoglobinopathies
Participate in and oversee academic and/or industry collaborations
Present research work at internal meetings and external national and international conferences
The ideal candidate:
Possesses research experience and technical skills in hemoglobinopathies disease research, hematology, hematopoietic stem cell biology and/or gene editing/genomics, including a strong publication and presentation record in notable scientific forums
Demonstrated research expertise and experience in molecular biology, including hematopoietic stem cell culture, expansion, transfection and transduction
Experience in flow cytometry is a plus
Familiar and proficient with gene editing techniques and assay development and validation, including next-generation sequencing; Experience with single-cell technologies (e.g. 10X Genomics) is a plus
Keeps up-to-date on relevant literature and applies knowledge to ongoing research work and the strategic direction of experimental priorities
Highly motivated, independent, collaborative, and able to communicate effectively with a cross-functional team.
- PhD in Pharmacology, Biology or related biological science with 4+ years of relevant post-doctoral/industry experience
