Sanofi Group Scientist, Neuroscience, Genomic Medicine Unit in Waltham, Massachusetts

Position Overview:

We are seeking a Scientist to be part of a team focused on gene therapy for neurological diseases, in the Genomic Medicine Unit. The successful candidate will play a key supporting role in the development of gene therapy strategies targeting the central and peripheral nervous system and ensure successful translation of pre-clinical gene therapy programs to a clinical setting.

Key Responsibilities:

Specifically, the remit of the candidate will be to:

  • Apply expertise in peripheral neuropathies and neurodegeneration to execute studies/experiments in support of research project goals in a timely manner

  • Design, validate, and implement molecular, biochemical, and histological assays (dPCR/RT-dPCR, Western blot, ELISA, in-situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence)

  • Processing and maintenance of primary tissue cultures and cell lines

  • Effectively record and report experiments

  • Foster creativity, productivity, execution with a sense of urgency, teamwork, accountability, and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Develop and maintain a culture of teamwork and collaboration.

Basic Qualifications:

  • PhD in the field of neurobiology, plus 0-2 years of relevant research experience in an academic or biopharmaceutical setting OR

  • Bachelor or Master degree with significant relevant experience in neurobiology in an industry setting (minimum 5 years)

  • Background / experience in AAV and/or non-viral gene therapy preferred

  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in CNS and/or PNS disorders and experience with animal models of neurologic disease.

  • Experience working with in vitro and in vivo disease models using molecular biology and histological techniques including DNA, RNA and protein extraction, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, in-situ hybridization, western blot, dPCR/qPCR, and ELISA.

  • Possess strong presentation and communication skills.

  • Strong track record of peer-reviewed publications in the field of Neuroscience, neurogenetic disease, and/or gene therapy.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written.

  • Flexibility to rapidly changing priorities and deadlines

  • Experience in preparing high quality documents including technical reports, presentations, SOPs, and experimental protocols.

  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the USA.
