Sanofi Group Data Scientist Lead in Toronto, Ontario

Data Scientist Lead

The Data Scientist Lead will work on challenging machine learning and advanced analytics projects focused on Real World Data to generate patient-centered evidence with impact across Sanofi’s pipeline and business. It is a cross-functional role, engaging directly with the RWE function, business stakeholders, innovation teams, vendors/external partners, and data analysts / engineers across multiple development teams. RWE domain expertise, business input and industry research are critical aspects to the role.

Responsibilities

  • Help drive the development of a high-functioning organization through the deployment of cutting-edge computational techniques applied to a wide range of data, including structured and unstructured healthcare data sources, patient-generated data, and complementary real-world information streams.

  • Manage end-to-end data science projects, including data gathering and requirements specification, processing, analysis, ongoing deliverables, and presentations.

  • Provide operational and scientific support on multiple projects with a core role in delivering expertise in machine learning, modeling, simulation, NLP/text mining on real world data across Sanofi.

  • Work with developers, engineers, and MLOps to deliver robust and scalable machine learning solutions.

  • Contribute to the design, development, and implementation of Sanofi’s data science architecture and ecosystem to guide decision-making and building of foundational capabilities.

  • Maintain internal and external profile through contributions to congresses and publications.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Ph.D. or Sc.D. in a quantitative discipline (e.g. Medical Informatics, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field), with a minimum of 3 years of industry or academic experience

  • Expertise in articulating business questions, and implementing the improvement or adoption of new techniques (technology or methods)

  • Experience in statistical and machine learning techniques (e.g. clustering, boosting, generalized linear models/regression, decision trees, random forests, neural networks)

  • High level of proficiency with analytics software (e.g. Python, R), database languages, and computing environments/tools

  • Ability to prototype analyses and algorithms in high-level languages embracing reproducible and collaborative technology platforms (e.g. github, jupyter notebooks)

  • Experience with cloud and high-performance computational environments (e.g. AWS, Apache Spark, Databricks)

  • Exposure to NLP and data visualization capabilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, business analysis, and consultancy skills

  • A demonstrated ability to work and collaborate in a team environment

  • Experience with pharmaceutical operations, biomedical data, and/or drug development

  • Experience delivering in an agile environment

Additional Desired Skills:

  • Experience with various enterprise-level Application Programming Interfaces (APIs)

  • Disciplined ML development (CI/CD, Orchestration)

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities

  • Proven ability to operate effectively in an ambiguous environment
