SUMMARY OF PURPOSE/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Proactively assist chief engineer in all respect for Safe, Efficient, & Cost-effective Operation & Maintenance of Powerhouse & equipment including but not limited to Boilers, Co-gens, Compressors

  • Ensures the operation and maintenance of plant in compliance with The Operating Engineering Act

  • Assist Chief engineer in preparation and maintenance of annual department budget including utilities budget such as Natural gas/ Electricity purchase from Toronto hydro / site water consumption, maintenance budget, spare part and supplies

  • Supports ongoing and future projects such as Energy project, waster water treatment project by providing technical inputs during various stage of design review, technical documents and drawing review and by attending technical review meetings

  • Helps in developing and achieving department KPI targets in the area of safety, energy, downtime, cost by closely monitoring daily consumption/ generation data

  • Be fully responsible for the Utility and General Services when Chief Engineer is not available

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Ensure uninterrupted supply of Utility services (Air/Steam/Power/ Nat.Gas/Water) to whole site,

  • Review daily log sheet including operating parameters, water test results, abnormal condition

  • Promptly initiate corrective actions to rectify problems related to Powerplant equipment

  • Read logs timely and initiate appropriate action for addressing situations

  • Review PM reports, reports from Vendors and initiate timely action

  • Respond to calls, includes off hours, and address issues as needed

  • Prioritize and assign jobs to team members and provide appropriate direction as needed.

  • Proactively ensure Powerhouse is operated safely, efficiently and environmentally acceptable.

  • Prepare plan, schedule and coordinate activities related to annual site wide steam and electricity shutdown.

  • Prepares work scope for various maintenance related work for mechanical and electrical contractors, reviews and evaluate contractors offer, monitors contractors’ activity for safe work in powerhouse

  • Provide technical inputs for capital projects and provide input and documentation as asked

  • Supports various current and future TS initiative including but not limited to Three quote, Play to win strategy and See do card.

  • Verify accuracy of time sheets of Powerhouse staff & submit to Chief Engineer.

  • Prepare documents as asked which include: SOPs, Breakdown analysis, PM Plan and Performance statistics

CONTEXT OF THE JOB/MAJOR CHALLENGES

  • Be knowledgeable of interactions of the cogeneration plant with other boilers and auxiliaries.

  • Be able to respond quickly to resolve operational problems which can be resulted from fast changing

  • Operational conditions and site demands.

  • Be able to prioritize and assign jobs to team members, evaluate performance and make appropriate recommendations to team members and chief engineer

  • Demonstrated competence & proactive approach about Safe, Efficient practices & Legal requirements of operating Steam & Cogen plant.

  • Be available on phone or to come to plant during off hours / weekend to help in plant emergency situation

  • Be able provide guidance to other stationary engineers or steam plant trainee in steam plant practices.

  • Develop draft procedures, piping & system sketches submit to chief engineer when asked

DIMENSIONS/SCOPE

  • The interruption of steam/electricity supply to the site for 15 minutes can result in million dollars loss of production.

REQUIREMENTS

Education/experience:

  • Post secondary tech. education. Technology Degree/College (Assessed by Canadian Body).

  • Sound experience and competence in Power plant operations and maintenance.

  • Computer proficiency in using Office Software, SAP, Purchasing Systems.

  • Demonstrated experience in Preparing SOPs and Technical write ups.

Certifications:

  • 1st Class Stationary Engineer Certificate from Ontario, Technical Standards and Safety Authority. II class license holders who have passed I class exams and willing to obtain I class license may be considered.
