Sanofi Group Deputy Director Portfolio Management in Swiftwater, Pennsylvania

Department Description

Performance Excellence and Portfolio Management (PEPM) is the hub department in Manufacturing Technology that manages the business of executing projects in a fast-paced, industrialized production environment. We are experts in estimating and controlling the workload, resource demand and budget required to complete complex projects in a diverse project portfolio. We are the critical link between projects’ demand expressed by each Project Leader and platform shared resources performing the activities. We also provide detailed cost and workload analysis and support to strategic (short and mid-term) initiatives.

Job Overview

You are a structured person who can prioritize tasks across a portfolio with multiple priorities. You are highly flexible, experienced in communicating with stakeholders, and understand the business functionality of the vaccines environment. You are familiar with budget and resource analysis as well as project portfolio management and have a strong ability to extract and analyze a high volume of financial data in a short timeframe. You are a forward thinker with an attitude of LEAN methodology / optimization and efficiency to guarantee continuous improvement of our project financial business processes.


Portfolio Performance and Cost Analysis :

·Review and analyze project needs (e.g. people, testing, batches, consumables) and consolidate requirements /analysis to a shared portfolio view

·Interpret variances to budget or financial forecasts, challenge where applicable to control cost; ensure alignment of standard planning tools (SHINE and SAP) with needs.

·Monitor and communicate portfolio performance and health (on time and on budget delivery); proactively resolve gaps and variances to budget and latest financial trend

·Proactively work with stakeholders to level load portfolio requirements and establish current year-end landing forecast for the functional operating plan

·Analysis of COGS (Cost of Goods/SAP) vs planning tools (SHINE), identify and close gaps between project estimates and project actuals/landing

Strategic Planning Support

·Ensure new candidate project analyses are completed and consolidated within the site strategic plan

·Support project prioritization and implement outcomes to level load project candidates throughout the 5 to 10 year plan

·Facilitate communication of prioritization decisions through the project controller and leader community and ensure decisions are incorporated into project tools

Provide Planning Tools Expertise and Application of LEAN Meth

odology: Project and Portfolio Best Practices

·Apply LEAN methodologies to improve project estimating and budget reporting business processes and improve project community productivity

·Ensure operating plan data accuracy within the SHINE planning tool

·Provide technical expertise in the use of project management tools and best practices to the departmental project management community

·Ensure best practices and tools are being utilized correctly across projects

People Management:

·Departmental management, administration and performance management of staff within the portfolio management group; coaching, mentoring, and development planning

·Develop and maintain competencies of direct reports for an agile workforce through acquisitions, skills management, and development in alignment with forecasted or anticipated workload

Act as Site representative within global SHINE network for project estimating and capacity planning topics :

·Alert on gaps, deviations and good practices;

· Coordinate and/or contribute to capacity planning across sites;

·Propose ways of working and new/updated metrics;

·Ensure that the process implementation on site is aligned with what is defined at the global level

Basic Qualifications

·University Degree in relevant field

·3-5 years of project planning experience

·2+ years of people management experience

·3+ years of demonstrated matrix/cross-functional leadership

Preferred Qualifications

·3+ years of building needs and challenging estimates for projects or departments

·University degree in finance with 2+ years application in industry

·Experience in LEAN management

Terms of Employment :

The hired candidate will have a team of 2-3 direct reports. The Portfolio Manager role is critical to challenge project estimations and variance to COGS.Variability of plans and volume of activities requires continuous and agile management. The candidate will manage multiple stakeholders (project leaders, controllers, departmental heads, senior leadership, R&D and commercial operations) aiming at reconciling strategic ambitions and site resources and budget availability.
