Sanofi Group US Distribution Supervisor in Malvern, Pennsylvania

The US Distribution Supervisor is responsible for direct oversight and supporting performance of shipments of investigational drug material (Bulk Product, Investigational Product, Components, Medical Devices as well as any other product or item) used to support clinical studies at US Clinical Sites. In addition, this position will provide support when needed to all other warehouse activities, including but not limited to Import/Export activity, receiving, dispensing, return processing, annual physical inventory, destruction, offsite inventory maintenance and general maintenance of the warehouse. This position will also be the liaison to work with Sanofi Clinical Personnel, those directly associated with the management of the project at the Clinical Site. General supervision requirements are part of the position where the incumbent must be able to ensure his work and the work of others follows established procedures and policies. Supporting this requires the incumbent to:

  • Participate in the authoring and approval process for all distribution related standard operating procedures and policies

  • Lead in the training of employees

  • Work with a team to identify and resolve any deviations and issues along with assist in conducting investigations

  • Lead or assist in the implementation of improvements including but not limited to the following disciplines - quality, productivity, regulatory compliance, cost effectiveness and safety.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that all distribution activity is executed in a safe, compliant and timely manner. Ensures work is completed in accordance with standards described in the GMPs and departmental SOPs in support of all R&D investigational trials supported by Clinical Supply Chain Operations (CSCO).

  • Ensures training for all distribution staff is maintained, current and relevant to the respective roles. Role conducts, supports or directs all training activity for the group, including but not limited to; SOPs, safety, hazardous material shipping requirements and controlled substances (DEA). Oversees use of and ensures the staff is properly trained and employs departmental systems as required.

  • Ensures distribution activity is executed to schedule in a compliant manner. Under the direction of the Clinical Supplies (CS) Warehouse and Distribution Head, this could include distribution of investigational product in direct support of clinical sites, other CS sites, contractors or Sanofi affiliates. This activity also includes support of the CS Packaging Operations in GV.

  • Manages all aspects of inventory control. The Distribution Supervisor must be an expert user of in-house inventory control management system used by the department.

  • Responsible for efficient, flexible use and management of Distribution staff. The Distribution Supervisor must effectively allocate resources and manage multiple complex projects to fixed timelines. Supervisor must be able to review the work of others for accuracy and with an emphasis on compliance to procedures, policies, and regulations. This role works with the Clinical Supplies Warehouse and Distribution Head to make hiring and staff decisions.

  • Manages operation execution, write and review departmental procedures appropriate to his/her area of responsibility, manage material movement activity, KPI tracking and reporting.

  • Responsible for oversight and steady state readiness of the CSCO distribution facility and equipment. Incumbent must oversee facility and coordination of any maintenance activity with facilities management or vendors as appropriate.

  • Participates in regulatory and internal quality inspections and will be responsible for all issues related to distribution operations.

  • Responsible to support Distribution Operations assuring resources are level loaded to daily departmental activities.

Knowledge and Skills required:

  • Experience in working within a high-volume pharmaceutical distribution operation

  • Understanding of clinical supplies warehouse and distribution operations

  • Must have the ability to manage, lead and motivate others

  • Must have the ability to organize and manage a diverse cross-functional group with constantly changing demands

  • Must have the ability to apply technology to create operational efficiency

  • Must have excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills

  • Must have a good understanding of computer programs including but not limited to

  • Microsoft Office, Outlook, Warehouse/Distribution Systems

The incumbent must be capable of:

  • Performing repetitive motions and lifting (up to 50 pounds).

  • Pushing and/or pulling various amounts of weight.

  • Ability to stand and / or sit over intervals of several hours at a time.

  • Ability to bend, squat, and reach.

  • Based on production demands and personnel availability, different start times and finish times (shifts) and/or additional hours may be required so a flexible work schedule is required for this role.

Formal Education and/or equivalent experience required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Health Related field, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Supply Chain or scientific discipline with a minimum of 5 years in the pharmaceutical industry or equivalent.

  • Minimum 3 years Supervisory/Leading Teams Experience

  • Distribution of pharmaceutics, including cold chain distribution.

Knowledge and Skills desirable but not Essential:

  • Knowledge of clinical supplies packaging operations and clinical supply chain.

  • Controlled substances warehousing and distribution.

  • Knowledge of CFR49 and IATA hazmat packing and shipping.
