Zone Development Manager, Field Sales

Zones: East, Central or West

Description:

The Zone Development Manager will support the MS Sales function by providing ongoing continuity of our business and key relationships in open territories, performing ongoing analysis to determine key performance trends and opportunities, as well supporting ongoing training efforts within the zone. They will also be responsible for Zone Business Associate coverage of vacant territories. Ideal candidates would be top-performing ABMs/TLLs or other high potential individuals who have career aspirations to move into a team leadership role.

In this field- based developmental position, you will be responsible for the following key areas within a specific Sales Zone as follows:

  • RBD Vacancy Coverage (35%*)

  • Zone Level Analytics and Support and other special zone related projects (35%*)

  • Teams & Boards (15%)

  • Interviewing, training and support of POA meetings (15%*)

*Percentage time requirements are an approximation and may shift based on zone needs at any given time. Prioritization of duties will be provided by the Senior Business Director for the zone.

Job Responsibilities:

RBD Vacancy Coverage within Zone & Territory Vacancy (35%):

RBD Vacancy:

  • Assume the role of “interim RBD” in the event of an RBD vacancy. Duties will include:

  • Responsible for the oversight of all aspects of sales, managed markets, pull-through, local speaker/thought leader development, promotional programming, and budget management for the region

  • Spend time in the field with the representatives in order to support individual development as well as provide coaching, direction, and feedback

  • Work with Senior Business Director to develop and implement a region specific business plan and utilize all available resources to foster a successful sales environment and deliver on business unit objectives

  • Establish positive working relationships with all key customer segments

  • Lead Regional break-out sessions during POA meetings

Territory Vacancy-ZBA Management

  • Participate in the screening and interviewing of candidates for the Zone Business Associate Role

  • Manage scheduling, expenses, individual development of Zone Business Associate

  • Work with SBD, RBDs to ensure adequate coverage of vacant territories within the zone by the Zone Business Associate

  • Conduct field rides, coaching, development opportunities for the Zone Business Associate

Demonstrate success in achieving monthly, quarterly and annual sales targets

  • Attend local, regional and national meetings as directed

  • Ensure successful transition of territory once a full-time replacement has been hired

Zone Level Analytics and Support (35%)

  • Conduct zone-based sales/gap analysis to determine effectiveness of sales strategy and recommend solutions to improve sales performance

  • Provide on-going zone level analysis to determine ways to optimize overall zone level performance

  • Identify and prioritize key zone level investments

  • Inventory resources within zone and provide analysis/recommendations on how to best deploy resources to maximize zone performance

  • Complete ad-hoc zone level projects as assigned

  • Have an strong understanding of Incentive Compensation Plan

  • Provide Zone Analytic training with Zone utilizing Business Tools

Teams and Boards (15%)

  • Participate on multiple teams and boards across various business units throughout the organization

  • Attend meetings/webinars/teleconferences relating to the various teams/boards

  • Provide field-based/managerial feedback to team and board leaders

  • Typically pilot new initiatives before they are rolled out to the field force

Interviewing, Training and POA Support (15%)

  • Participate in and support the screening and interviewing of candidates to fill vacancies within zone – Note: The RBD will oversee the process and be accountable for the overall process and hire

  • Facilitate onboarding and training for new hires, including advanced training courses

  • Support planning and successful execution of all POA meetings in conjunction with the POA Planning Group

Basic Qualifications:

  • BA/BS Degree Required, preferably in life science or business, MBA a plus

  • 5 + years industry (pharmaceutical, biotech or medical device) sales experience, with 1-2+ years in specialty sales

  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply technical and scientific product-related information

  • Ability to travel to meetings/trainings/programs as necessary - additional travel may be required within the assigned territory

  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS sales/field experience strongly preferred

  • Sales Training or Marketing Coordinator experience strongly preferred

  • 1+ year experience with Genzyme MS Division strongly preferred

  • Proven track record of success and identified as a high level performer who can take on additional levels of responsibility

  • Ability to relocate, if needed

  • Strong level of business acumen

  • Excellent verbal communication skills

  • Must have the ability to create and implement a business plan to achieve territory and business sales goals

  • Strong collaboration skills and proven ability to work across multiple functions

  • Demonstrated leadership experience

  • Should reside within the geographic area of the assigned zone
