Sanofi Group Senior Scientist, MSAT Digital in Framingham, Massachusetts

This position is responsible for leading lab automation projects representing MSAT for the lab automation topics (including process analytical technologies, PAT) as well as the subject matter expert for lab equipment connection for automated data capture. Key Responsibilities are listed below and may change over time in accordance with business needs.

  • Act as the subject matter expert and leader for lab equipment connection to facilitate automated data capture.

  • Lead the lab automation projects under the umbrella of global lab automation roadmap. These projects will be executed in collaboration with the business teams and lab automation program leader.

  • Support the lab automation program leader through defining the roadmap, stakeholder management, program management and CAPEX oversight.

  • Drive through partnerships within MSAT and with CMC Dev the conceptualization, development and use of lab automation tools to increase speed and productivity of process development activities. Drive adoption of the relevant automation tools (e.g., PAT and liquid handling systems) in partnership with Manufacturing and QC.

  • Establish best practices to manage lab automation technologies and achieve harmonization across global MSAT and with CMC Dev.

  • Scientific SME on the communications with lab automation vendors for new technologies. Promote an interest in lab automation topics within global MSAT through seminars, presentations etc.

  • Develop and maintain awareness on lab of the future and lab automation technologies and their relevance to Sanofi’s needs.

  • Be an active participant through external engagement to present Sanofi’s position and promote Sanofi’s interests.

  • Build relationships with vendors for new lab automation technologies to incorporate Sanofi’s needs and help MSAT labs become and stay as state-of-the-art.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry OR Biochemical Engineering, Physical / Analytical Chemistry, Bioengineering may also be considered

  • 5 years industry experience in CMC biologics development, biologics manufacturing setting or digital technologies

  • M.S. in these fields with 7 years industry experience

  • B.S. in these fields with 10 years industry experience.

  • Good transversal understanding in Upstream, Downstream and Analytical techniques with deep expertise in minimum of one of three areas

  • Demonstrated experience with lab automation, digital technologies and/or process analytical technologies

  • Prior experience with lab equipment connection for automated data capture into data management systems

  • Prior experience leading global cross-functional project teams and demonstrating project management skills

  • Prior experience with digital transformation programs, implementing or managing digital SaaS infrastructure, and database integration


  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Influencing across various organization levels in other departments.

  • Ability to forge alliances with vendors and industry peers.

  • Ability to function independently with minimal active oversight.


  • Requires working in an industrial manufacturing and laboratory environment including gowning

  • Domestic and International travel may be required

  • This position will require minimum 80% onsite presence while following all site COVID-19 protocols
