Sanofi Group Senior Principal Scientist, Lab Head, Structure Biology and Computational Biologics Design in Framingham, Massachusetts

Our global Large Molecule Research (LMR) department consists of five sites, and approximately 550 personnel focused on antibodies, nanobodies and synthorins as therapeutic modalities. Our platform enables and partners closely with other research platforms and Sanofi’s therapeutic areas (Immunology & Inflammation, Immuno-Oncology, Rare & Neurologic Diseases) in the discovery and ultimate delivery of new candidate molecules.
We are seeking a Lab Head for our Computational Biologics Design Lab within the Protein Engineering group of Large Molecule Research US. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a group of top-level computational biologists, structural biologists and protein engineers at the forefront of therapeutic protein design. This individual will report to the Head of Protein Engineering and will collaborate closely with other scientists in Protein Engineering, Molecular Biology, Protein Production, Antibody Discovery Groups within LMR US. Additionally, he/she will work closely with global computational biology counterparts in three other sites, multiple therapeutic area project teams, and other global LMR community scientists. Together, this individual will lead the effort to provide innovative, structure-based biologics design solutions that can solve the challenges of large molecule drug discovery to optimize MoA/CMC/PK/PD properties, with the focus on oncology, immuno-oncology and immunology & inflammation.
Mentor and lead a top-tier team of computational scientists, structural biologists, protein engineers.
Provide strong scientific and technical leadership for structural analysis and computational biologics design in global LMR community for multiple biologics programs.
Develop state-of-art computational workflow for protein modeling and/or engineering.
Support multiple projects in the fast-paced environment by providing in-depth structural analysis, computational and structure-based design solutions to optimize desirable biologics properties.
Interact actively with the therapeutic area scientists and project team leaders for biologics programs.
Collaborate closely with the global counterpart leaders of Structural Biology council.
Ph. D. with 7+ years of academic or industry experience in the fields of computational biology, machine learning, bioinformatics, structural biology, biochemistry or biophysics, with significant experience in protein modeling/protein design; People management experience with direct reports a must.
Knowledge of biologics discovery and development processes and challenges associated with them; experience with multispecfic modalities strongly preferred.
Proven impact on biologics discovery programs through developing innovative design solutions based on the structure analysis.
Deep understanding of protein structures (e.g. antibody/nanobody) and protein-protein interactions a must.
Hands-on experience with protein structure modeling, structural analysis and optimization of biochemical and biophysical properties, like thermodynamics, with protein design tools e.g. Rosetta, BioLuminate, or MOE, etc.
Working knowledge of AI/ML and deep learning techniques for protein structure prediction and design highly preferred.
Experience of CRO management for CryoEM or crystallography services.
Experience in Python and/or R, working in a Linux environment, cloud computing, parallel computing, and/or supercomputing.
Track record of accomplishment demonstrated by peer reviewed publications, inventorship on patent applications and/or invited speakership at major conferences; superb written and oral communication skills.
Thrive in a fast-paced environment and able to prioritize amongst multiple projects.
Excellent problem solving and written/oral communication skills, as well as scientific writing, presentation, and collaboration skills.
