Sanofi Group Senior Principal Scientist, Lab Head, Lysosomal Storage and Metabolic Diseases in Framingham, Massachusetts

Sanofi is searching for a Lab Head in the Lysosomal Storage and Metabolic Disease Research Cluster who will be a scientific innovator, drive scientific excellence and rigor, and develop and advance cutting-edge therapeutics. The successful candidate will display deep expertise in lysosomal biology and lysosomal-associated diseases, and an outstanding track record identifying and advancing therapeutic concepts, presenting at national and international meetings, and authoring publications in leading journals.

The Lab Head will develop discovery research projects, advance them to clinical studies, and collaborate with translational and development colleagues through Ph2 and to registration. He/she will manage several portfolio projects and scientists and technical staff, supported by multidisciplinary platforms based in the Boston area and globally. The Lab Head will identify and validate new targets using a variety of tools, including human genetics, human sample analyses, bioinformatics, clinical data, and preclinical in vitro and in vivo models, implementing new models and technologies. He/she will recruit scientists to grow the group, train postdoctoral fellows and manage the career development of a group of 5-7 colleagues. The Lab Head will maintain a network of experts in lysosomal diseases and related metabolic disorders, connecting Sanofi scientists with collaborators around the globe.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead a team responsible for identifying novel targets and pathways for lysosomal-related diseases, connecting cutting-edge science with unmet medical need.

  • Lead high priority portfolio projects, leveraging research platform support, develop project goals and meet project milestones and timelines.

  • Lead scientists and technical staff experienced in a range of disciplines, from molecular and cell biology, neuropharmacology, neurochemistry, histopathology, and behavior, to develop deep mechanistic understanding of disease pathogenesis and confidence in target rationale,

  • Support the Rare & Neuroscience Therapeutic Area strategy by identifying new targets and advancing projects in the current pipeline.

  • Lead internally and externally in lysosomal disease research, presenting and publishing cutting edge science and developing and maintaining key collaborations around the globe.

Qualifications and competencies

  • Ph.D. in biology, pharmacology, neuroscience or related discipline, with postdoctoral fellowship training in lysosomal and/or glycosphingolipid biology with a minimum 12 years of experience.

  • Experience leading research teams in an academic or industry setting is required.

  • Deep expertise and outstanding record of research and publications in lysosomal or metabolic diseases and/or related fields.

  • Expertise in cutting-edge approaches in cell biology, use of -omics, bioinformatics, data mining, and other approaches to identify and validate targets and pathways.

  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: discovery research, translational human biology, early clinical development, human biology approaches, biomarker development and validation, and forward and back translation of research and clinical endpoints.

  • Understanding of complex research landscapes globally, ability to identify cutting-edge research and new directions, and connect internal and external colleagues productively.

  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary, matrixed teams.

  • Outstanding oral communication, management, and interpersonal skills.
