Sanofi Group Senior Electrical Engineer in Framingham, Massachusetts

Department Description:

The Framingham Engineering & Project Controls organization is responsible for providing Engineering support to organizations on the Framingham campus. This organization is comprised of 3 groups: Engineering, Commissioning and Qualification and Projects and Controls.

The Framingham Engineering & Project Controls organization will be supporting the following groups at the Framingham campus: (1) Framingham Biologics - comprised of commercial Fabrazyme, Thyrogen and Global Cell Banking operations. (2) Framingham Facilities Operations - responsible for campus wide facilities and utilities operations per established Service Level Agreements and (3) Framingham Campus - in the context of programs/projects requiring approval, planning and execution across the Sanofi groups on the Framingham campus. While each business has its own Engineering support group, the Framingham Engineering & Project Controls organization will interact with all of these groups on projects/programs with campus impact.

This organization is responsible for providing Engineering support for all cGMP process and utility systems at Framingham Biologics, maintaining these systems in a validated state of control and ensuring uninterrupted business continuity. This organization is also responsible for shared GMP systems on the Framingham campus as defined by Service Level Agreements. The Capital Projects group is responsible for the planning and execution of projects and programs under its scope as determined by budget and other pre-established criteria, ensuring projects/programs are completed to established schedules and budget. The Commissioning and Qualification groups will be responsible for providing C&Q support to systems and projects/programs within the scope of this organization.


Core Responsibilities:

  • Act as SME for electrical distribution systems and major components throughout the campus

  • Provide design review for new implementation and legacy system modifications

  • Analyze trends and failure rates to identify bad actors and recommend solutions

  • Provide alarm management services to determine effective alarm rationalization

  • Mentor engineering staff on electrical distribution system and components

  • Participate and act as electrical engineering main point of contact for CAPEX and OPEX projects throughout the campus

  • Coordinate building electrical shutdowns to ensure building occupant electrical needs for critical equipment are properly met, switchgear and distribution loop equipment are serviced and staffed appropriately

  • Compile Engineering Life Cycle documentation for electrical related projects

Interactions with:

  • Manufacturing Engineering

  • Assist with functional equivalent determination on I&C related items

  • Design review resource

  • Commissioning and Qualification:

  • Review C&Q protocols and reports associated with I&C/Automation

  • Support execution activities or discrepancy investigation/resolution

  • Metrology

  • Complete Calibration Parameter Worksheet (CPW) I&C evaluations

  • Work with Metrology on investigations significant of out-of-tolerance events or trends

  • Automation

  • Assist with lifecycle document changes within MSIT Change Management

  • Quality

  • Electrical Engineering SME for Change Control assessment, deviation investigations and CAPA plan development

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field or Licensed Electrician with 10+ years’ experience in an industrial manufacturing environment

  • General programming and troubleshooting background with PLCs, DCS, HMI, SCADA, etc.

  • Experience with medium voltage switchgear

  • Knowledge in enclosure/washdown/IS ratings

  • Knowledge of Acr flash safe work practices

  • Strong understanding of coordination studies

  • Solid understanding of NEC code – how to search, understand and develop scope of work to meet code requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a Biotech / Pharmaceutical environment

  • Experience with Delta V and Rockwell systems

Special Working Conditions:

  • Ability to gown and gain entry to manufacturing areas

  • Required to support manufacturing operations on an as needed basis

  • Required to support building shutdowns as necessary
