Sanofi Group Scientist Viral Vector Manufacturing Platform Development, in Framingham, Massachusetts

Position Overview/Department Description:

The Genomic Medicine Unit (GMU) CMC group at Sanofi is dedicated to the establishment of best-in-class manufacturing platforms to support development of life-changing advanced cell and gene therapy products. This organization encompasses Pre-development, Cell Culture and Purification Process Development, Analytical Development, Drug Product Development and Clinical Manufacturing. The GMU Pre-Development group operates with the mission to develop robust, scalable, and innovative viral vector manufacturing platforms to support Sanofi’s genomic medicine pipeline.

As a member of the Pre-Development team, the successful applicant will make important contributions to the optimization of the stable producer cell line platform for AAV vector manufacturing. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated scientist with broad knowledge in mammalian gene expression systems and experience in viral vector production and cell line engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct molecular biology and mammalian cell culture experiments to characterize and optimize AAV vector production from stable producer cell lines and HEK293 cells

  • Design and implement gene expression strategies, including inducible gene expression systems, to enhance cell line performance

  • Apply cell line engineering (via gene editing, knockout, overexpression) to improve AAV vector productivity

  • Contribute to project, technical and strategic teams as appropriate

Basic Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in Biotechnology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Virology or related discipline, or Masters degree with a minimum of 4 years relevant experience or a Bachelors degree with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience

  • Strong background in molecular and cell biology, preferably in the context of virology and host/viral interactions

  • Expertise in basic molecular biology techniques (molecular cloning, qPCR, SDS-PAGE, Western blot, ELISA, etc.)

  • Demonstrated experience in mammalian gene expression systems

  • Strong cell culture expertise as demonstrated by experience with a variety of cell lines, including suspension cell lines and execution of mammalian tissue culture techniques

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to function within a collaborative/team-oriented environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Molecular understanding of viral vector production, in particular Adeno-Associated Virus biology, is highly desired

  • Experience in the development of stable AAV producer cell lines and/or vector production via the HEK293 transient transfection platform

  • Proficiency in use of SnapGene molecular biology software and bioinformatics tools

  • Experience with RNAseq and metabolomics analyses
