Sanofi Group Research Project Manager in Framingham, Massachusetts
The Research Project Manager he / she manages project operational activities including 1) translating the project strategy into an operational plan (incl. budget, resources and timelines), 2) developing alternative and backup strategies, 3) identifying risks and mitigation approaches, 4) maintaining the project timeline, managing variances, and communicating the impact of or actual variances to senior leadership, 5) managing the process project stage gate reviews associated with milestones. The PM manages research projects and can potentially be responsible for preceptorship(s).
Builds the operational plan, coordinates and tracks all project-activities (vs. scientific excellence) in order to allow optimal progress and decision making (e.g. manage contracts, budgets, meetings, timelines, reports, legal questions etc.).
Ensures execution of functional plans along agreed timelines: monitors sub-teams to drive execution of plans against strategy.
Identifies risks, tracks relevant project KPIs and proactively proposes mitigation plans.
Manages stakeholders, point of contact of the different interfaces: between sub teams, between team and functions/platforms.
Ensures adequate entry of project status into various dashboard and tracking tools.
Manages teams through milestones and stage gate reviews.
Skills and Competencies:
Ability to manage and operationally lead complex, matrixed drug discovery and development projects/teams; Lead the teams through project governance process.
Highly proficient in communication and presentation.
Ability to challenge assumptions, identify risks and propose mitigation strategies, and maintain timelines (incl. option to terminate project).
Ability to motivate matrixed teams to work collaboratively towards goals and milestones.
Proficient in planning tools such as MS Project, Think Cell. Good knowledge of OPTIME capabilities.
Master’s or PhD in Science, and 10+ years experience in biotech/pharma industry.
5+ years industry experience managing or leading R&D projects.
MBA and/or PMP preferred.
