Job Responsibilities/Department Description:
Biologics Development at Sanofi develops and implements manufacturing processes for therapeutic proteins starting with an early and strong interface with Research. It encompasses cell line development, GMP cell banking, upstream- downstream and formulation development, assay development, GMP clinical biologics production for toxicological and clinical studies, release and stability testing (QC). Biologics Development drives identification, development & introduction of new state-of-the-art technologies, and provides launch capable processes and analytical methods at the interface to biologics manufacturing.
Within the Biologics Development Group, the Continuous Manufacturing Skill Center (CMSC) is a global function with the mission to develop and implement a commercializable Integrated Continuous Biomanufacturing (ICB) platform in R&D and Industrial Affairs (IA). ICB provides many important strategic advantages through process intensification, integration and simplification. CMSC is responsible for the development and application of innovative technologies for the establishment of an end-to-end fully continuous production platform for biologics. CMSC will support implementation for clinical trial and commercial manufacturing in existing facilities as well as in the “factory of the future” through partnerships with other global Skill Centers, Bioprocess Development and IA. This is an exciting opportunity with the potential to have a significant impact on future manufacturing strategies to be used by Sanofi and the biopharmaceutical industry as a whole.
Major Job responsibilities:
We are seeking a Principal Research Engineer with experience in upstream bioprocess development. This individual will join a dynamic and motivated team to develop and implement cell culture technologies in the design of an intensified ICB process platform. He/she will ensure that the highest standards of safety and environmental compliance are maintained in the workplace and will operate under the regulatory requirements for biologics product development and manufacturing.
Lead, design, and conduct cell culture experiments using high throughput cell culture methods, benchtop bioreactors and/or pilot scale single-use bioreactors
Perform data analysis, prepare technical reports, SOPs, and internal presentations
Develop, maintain and demonstrate knowledge of concepts, principles, and techniques in upstream continuous biomanufacturing
Demonstrate insight on important new technologies and published literature, attend external scientific forums, and publish in relevant bioprocess journals
Foster effective cross-functional communications across bioprocess disciplines and departments
- B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Cell Biology, Biochemistry or a related field and 8 years of relevant industry experience or M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Cell Biology, Biochemistry or related fields and 6 years of relevant industry experience.
Knowledge of perfusion-based cell culture technologies and operations
Knowledge of mammalian cell culture process technologies and their applications
Direct experience with bioreactor systems at various scales
Understanding of high throughput cell culture systems and related automated liquid handling technologies
Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) methodology for process development and characterization and related process data analysis
Exposure to formal technology transfer procedures and strategies
Demonstrated ability to function well within a fast-paced, dynamic and collaborative team-oriented environment
The candidate should be self-motivated, strongly driven to succeed, inquisitive and innovative, and have excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills
