Sanofi Group Principal Research Associate Purification Process Development in Framingham, Massachusetts

Department Overview:

Purification Process Development (part of Sanofi R&D) is responsible for development, scale-up, transfer, and characterization of purification processes for clinical and commercial manufacturing of therapeutic proteins from the mammalian production platform. In addition, the department develops next-generation bioprocessing and process development technologies such as integrated and continuous bioprocessing, high throughput process development, and mechanistic modeling of bioprocesses. The department also works to support a global purification network and update our purification platform.

Key Responsibilities:

We are looking for candidates for the position of Principal Research Associate . This individual should be able to use scientific principles and professional practices to creatively and practically solve a wide range of problems, while ensuring the highest standards of safety, environmental and regulatory compliance are maintained in the workplace.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading the development of individual downstream unit operations that can be scaled to pilot, clinical, and commercial manufacturing scales

  • Contributing to teams developing robust downstream processes

  • Contributing to teams examining novel purification technologies for manufacturing and process development

  • Developing, maintaining, and demonstrating knowledge of principles, theories, and techniques in areas of responsibility

  • Maintaining good communication and collaboration with colleagues in a cross-functional matrix environment

  • Independently documenting experimental results in technical reports and presenting results at departmental meetings

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry or related discipline with a minimum of 2 years of relevant industry experience or a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 4 years of relevant industry experience

  • Ability to work as part of a diverse cross-functional team

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An understanding of scientific and engineering principles and techniques used in the unit operations for production of protein therapeutics such as:

  • AKTA or automated protein purification chromatography

  • Tangential flow filtration or UF/DF

  • Virus clearance and inactivation

  • Filtration unit operations at various scales

  • Experience with statistical analysis and modeling

  • An understanding of scientific principles underlying purification technologies and operations

  • Excellent planning, organization, and communication skills

  • Logical and critical thinking skills, as well as innovative problem solving

  • Ability to work independently and function in a matrix/collaborative/team-oriented environment

  • High level of scientific curiosity
