Sanofi Group Next Generation Sequencing Scientist in Framingham, Massachusetts
We are seeking a motivated Scientist to join the newly formed Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Core group to support genomic analyses of multiple therapeutic modalities within the Genomic Medicine Unit (GMU) CMC organization. The role is responsible for leading projects, interfaced within a cross-functional team, to develop and implement genomic analytical solutions for programs spanning precandidate selection through commercialization. The ideal candidate will be expected to develop NGS sample preparation methods using established molecular biology techniques and by exploring novel solutions.
Develop NGS sample preparation methods to characterize and release various biopharmaceutical candidates including monoclonal antibodies, viral vectors for gene therapy, and cell lines.
Lead project teams comprised from analytical and data sciences groups to develop and implement genomic analytical solutions for programs spanning precandidate selection through commercialization.
Identify and implement new technologies to accelerate NGS workflows.
Develop and execute complex molecular biology protocols, specifically various NGS-based library preparation and characterization protocols, using established molecular biology techniques and novel solutions.
Communicate with internal stakeholders to develop and provide custom analysis solutions and troubleshooting support.
Provide technical support to existing methods and analysis solutions.
Keep records of development work and testing in a GxP environment utilizing electronic notebook solutions.
Write technical reports and method/instrument SOPs.
Method and instrument qualification and validation.
Represent the group at external conferences.
Ph.D. in a relevant biology discipline or a Master’s degree in a relevant biology discipline with a minimum of 4 years of relevant industry experience, or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant biology discipline with a minimum of 6 years of relevant industry experience.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience with NGS, spanning DNA extraction through sample analysis.
Expertise with basic molecular biology techniques (i.e., ligation, PCR, and qPCR) as well as nucleic acid extraction and analysis techniques (i.e., Nanodrop, DNA fragment analyzers, ddPCR, etc.).
Advanced understanding of NGS platforms, specifically those utilizing the synthesis by sequencing technique (i.e., Illumina platforms).
High-level understanding of NGS analysis pipeline setup and execution.
Practical method qualification and validation experience using quality by design.
Familiarity with instrument and software validation regulations.
Ability to work independently and adapt under aggressive and/or changing timelines.
Familiarity with liquid handlers and other automation tools.
Knowledge of and/or experience with other sequencing platforms (i.e., PacBio Sequel II).
Scripting experience in coding languages (i.e., bash, awk, python, R, etc.) is preferred.
Experience mentoring junior staff is highly preferred.
