Rare & Neurologic Diseases Therapeutic Area

Sanofi is searching for a Head of Scientific and Portfolio Strategy in the Rare & Neurologic Diseases Therapeutic Area (RND TA). We are seeking a scientific innovator with demonstrated expertise in drug development and first in human studies, deep understanding of intrinsic mechanisms of disease, novel technologies and upcoming biomarkers. The successful candidate will play an active role sustaining and advancing an innovative and diversified portfolio of cutting-edge therapeutics for common neurodegenerative disorders and rare diseases, including metabolic, renal, hematological, muscle, and neurological disorders.

Key responsibilities

Scientific strategy, portfolio, and governance

  • Overview and scientifically manage the research RND TA portfolio. Interact with teams to anticipate roadblocks and provide guidance and in-depth review. Actively contribute to internal project evaluation, individually and/or leveraging internal expertise as required

  • Provide additional feedback to TA head on individual projects and overall portfolio balance

  • Coordinate and animate the RND TA portfolio prioritization process, including the early research phase

  • Represent RND TA in various Sanofi committees as required

Scientific excellence and TA external visibility

  • Raise scientific awareness. Read, monitor and distribute literature

  • Maintain analysis of specific areas of interest to the TA (i.e., dementias, muscular and neuromuscular diseases, neurodegeneration, biomarkers, etc.)

  • Represent the RND TA at scientific meetings as required

External opportunities and scientific relations

  • Proactively participate with management to define key areas of interest for external opportunities

  • Review opportunities on Rare and Neurologic Diseases brought by the Business Development and External Innovation team. Gate and dispatch to appropriate expert in TA, according to strategic priorities. When appropriate, participate to further analysis including due diligence

  • Scout for scientific collaborations, liaise with KOL and prospect external opportunities

  • Track ongoing external collaboration progress and deliverables

  • Coordinate review and ranking of Sanofi Strategic Academic Partnerships in US and Europe; identify internal reviewers, schedule review process and harmonize final ranking for TA validation

Qualifications :

  • Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Rare disease, Genetics or related field, with +15y of experience in pharma industry in such areas

  • Strong track record/experience in research and drug discovery projects reaching First in Human

  • Strong track record of publications in neuroscience and/or rare diseases

  • Strong background in molecular biology, genome editing technologies, bioinformatics, stem cell biology, pathology, biomarkers, and drug discovery

  • Ability to meet aggressive timelines and deliverables in a collaborative environment

  • Excellent speaking, reading and writing skills

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
