Sanofi Group Associate Scientist Discovery Pathology in Framingham, Massachusetts

Global Discovery Pathology (GDP) team based in Framingham/ Cambridge, MA is committed to delivering project-focused solutions for all Sanofi research projects by providing integrated expertise in translational/comparative pathobiology, specialized histology, and innovative cellular and molecular imaging through our agile, empowered, and collaborative team.

We are looking for an Associate Scientist (Operations Lead) to join our team. Role and Responsibilities:

The Associate Scientist (Operations Lead) will lead on all operational aspects of GDP laboratories including procurement, equipment maintenance, shipping and receiving, project coordination, and studies tracking using a custom laboratory information management system (LIMS). Key responsibilities include:

  • Support the identification of process improvement opportunities and administer the quality assurance process and work with Discovery Pathology managers to put actions in place to realize the opportunity.

  • Co-ordinate with departmental managers and laboratory team members on one hand and external CRO partners on the other to ensure studies identified for outsourcing are accurately tracked and deliverables are received with proactive planning for highlighting delays, issues and risks.

  • Track and communicate study progress in our LIMS, ship locally and/or internationally glass slides or paraffin or frozen tissue blocks, maintain chain of custody documents.

  • Scan glass microscope slides on a digital whole slide scanner and curate internal database of digitally scanned slide (eSlide Manager).

  • The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and with GDP team members, while having strong organizational and communication skills to foster effective collaborations with Pathologists, GDP team members, TA scientists and other platform colleagues on project teams.

You will be also involved in the following activities on a regular or ad-hoc basis:

  • Implementation of the standard operating procedures for the facility,

  • Participation in revisions of standard operating procedures,

  • Scheduled/preventative maintenance of equipment and facility

  • Record retention

  • Management and documentation of training curriculum

  • Purchasing and inventory management

  • Contribute to operational excellence within GDP and Translational In-vivo Models global research platform

  • Work with Global Discovery Pathology team in developing strategies for expanding and promoting collaborations and facilitate effective Change Management with an acute focus on Sanofi’s Play-to-Win behaviors.

  • Other duties as assigned to support the essential functions of the position and operational needs of Global Discovery Pathology.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences with emphasis in chemistry, biochemistry, or pharmaceutical sciences

  • 1-2 year of project management experience or previous experience or responsibilities as a lab manager, project coordinator or a lab administrator

  • Experience writing SOPs

  • Highly self-motivated, team player, with proven and excellent interpersonal skills interacting with multidisciplinary teams

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Organization and time management skills

  • Proficient in the use of software applications: databases, spreadsheets, word processing and Power-Point (Microsoft Office Suite)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with chain of custody procedures and documentation

  • Experience with the whole slide scanning process and instruments (Leica AT2 or GT450)

  • Familiarity of research pipeline and work flow process in biopharmaceutical industry

  • Experience in project coordination and project management as related to the biotechnology industry

  • Familiarity with basic workflows in a histology, microscopy and pathology laboratories including LIMS in a research or hospital setting
