Sanofi Group Head of Vaccine Research for North America in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Sanofi Pasteur is looking for a Head of Research for North America to lead innovative and entrepreneurial vaccine research and strategy, manage, develop and lead a team of scientists at our Cambridge Research facility and contribute to the development of Sanofi Pasteur’s vaccine pipeline, working within the Global Research organization and transversally with other functions across Global R&D. Reporting to the VP Head of Global Research.
Research site head for the Cambridge Research facility (54,000 sq feet) and head of Research for North America.
Lead, develop and manage a scientific team of over 35 FTE’s for innovative vaccine research with a culture of entrepreneurial scientific endeavors, to characterize, assess and improve vaccine candidates.
Identify and leverage external partnership opportunities, particularly in the Cambridge MA area, to access and apply state-of-the-art new technologies in new fields to advance vaccine candidates.
Establish and lead a new strategic direction for the Research site, aligned with Global Research goals for new fields in support of vaccine projects.
Provide Scientific input and leadership for all research related activities and existing vaccine projects for the Global Research function.
In addition to driving research and early development activities, including preclinical assessments and translational science, provide support for vaccine candidates through development and licensure with Research expertise and resources.
Develop, implement and oversee the application of new technologies, methods and analytics to improve the research evaluation of new vaccine candidates.
Manage the talent development of the NA Research team and support the implementation of the Global Research organization roadmap for scientific and process improvements.
R&D Committee membership to support governance.
Oversee all site related responsibilities including but not limited to Environmental, Health, and Safety program, Compliance programs, etc
Profile (industry and non-industry)
Minimum of 15 years’ experience in vaccine R&D (industry, organization or faculty).
Experience leading a research group and overseeing laboratory facilities.
PhD / Post-doctoral experience ideally in an expanding applicable field of immunology (particularly B-cell immunology).
In depth experience dissecting immune responses to vaccination (biomarkers, immunonomics).
Ideally, expertise in infectious disease related biology, pathophysiology, virology and/or immunology.
Scientific expertise in vaccines proven by publications record and field recognition.
Strong communication and leadership skills with experience of entrepreneurial endeavors.
