Sanofi Group Global Scientific Communications Lead (RBD) in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Job Summary

The Global Scientific Communications (GSC) lead will drive the development of medical, clinical, and scientific data dissemination strategy for acquired thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (aTTP) disease resulting in implementation of publication and medical communication plans. The global publication strategy includes tactics for external data communications such as submission of abstracts to medical and scientific congresses, as well as preparation of resulting posters and oral presentations, and manuscripts to medical journals. The GSC lead is also accountable for development of the global medical communications strategy, establishment of scientific platforms, and implementation of the medical education and communications plans for aTTP disease.

Assignments will pertain to current or future therapies within the Rare Blood Disorders (RBD), Complement franchise or to disease state materials. Tactical implementation will involve collaboration with external authors and academic experts in the field of aTTP and RBD diseases. In addition to external authors, this position will require working closely with cross-functional teams and internal stakeholders from multiple regions and countries. A key element of this role will be to motivate, drive, and encourage collaborating coauthors and internal resources towards successful publications and implementation of medical communication and education strategies.

This role will report to the Global Scientific Communications Franchise Lead, RBD-Complement. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a passionate, high profile, high-impact Scientific Engagement and Communications team and work in a highly dynamic and collaborative setting.

Domestic and international travel will be required; approximately 20-25%.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain reasonable expertise in a given therapeutic area(s) disease state within RBD, as well as literature related to overall treatment options and Sanofi Genzyme product data

  • Drive the development of (and updates to) the yearly global publication and medical communication plans for assigned product(s)

  • Ensure appropriate tracking and execution of the publications tactical plan for assigned product(s). Oversee (and when needed contribute to) the preparation of high quality abstracts, posters, slide decks, and manuscripts according to established timelines and procedures, and within assigned budget

  • Engage external investigators and RBD experts when appropriate as authors for publication development

  • Work with external vendors/service providers, including publication agencies of record and independent medical writers, on publications planning/execution and the creation of annual and long-range global medical communications plans

  • Contribute to the development of medical/scientific content for scientific exchange, advisory boards, educational symposia/programs, training initiatives, engagement of key opinion leaders and congress plans

  • Ensure that key data and strategically aligned scientific communication points are included appropriately in publications and internal/external global and regional communications resources, and that statements and conclusions are accurate, balanced, and supported by appropriate data

  • Participate in relevant cross-functional teams and task forces to represent the Global Scientific Communications and Content Development teams as needed.

  • Participate in budget forecasting for publications development and data dissemination from company-sponsored studies and post-hoc analyses

  • Contribute as requested to the development/editing of other important scientific/medical materials to support the medical communications program, which might include briefing documents, written communications, Frequently Asked Question documents, etc.

Basic Qualifications

  • Professional degree in life or Pharmaceutical sciences (Masters, Pharm.D) with 4 or more years of work experience in scientific communications/medical affairs within pharma/biotech industry.

  • Ability to think strategically and interpret and critique scientific and medical literature with respect to scientific and business implications is essential.

  • Experience and demonstrated skill in the analysis, communication, and presentation of complex scientific and medical data.

  • Exemplary customer facing skills, and the capability to collaborate with external Key Opinion Leaders on publication’s development and presentations, in a credible, responsive and customer focused manner is a necessity.

  • Ability to collaborate and build solid working relationships cross-functionally. Excellent interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing medical communications and/or publication agencies

  • Strong leadership skills and ability to plan and organize effectively; to thrive in a fast-paced team environment, to work independently on projects and demonstrated ability to manage several projects simultaneously

  • Experience writing abstracts, posters, and manuscripts

  • Knowledge of industry guidelines pertaining to data dissemination (e.g., CONSORT, ICMJE, GPPs) and interactions with health care providers (e.g., PhRMA Code, AdvaMed guidelines)

  • Experience collaborating with and supporting international medical scientific colleagues
