Global Medical Director, MPS

The Position

This position, which reports to the Senior Global Medical Director, ASMD & MPS, leads key internal and external medical programs by integrating scientific, clinical, and commercial priorities as a member of the Rare Diseases Global Medical Affairs team. The main objective is to work with colleagues around the world to ensure that MPS patients receive appropriate care within sustainable health care systems, so that patients can achieve the best possible long-term health outcomes.

The Medical Director will focus on MPS, and will have extensive interaction with internal and external colleagues in North America, Europe, Latin America, and Asia. The Medical Director drives the medical affairs strategy, including: leading the awareness and positioning of the disease and available treatments; publication planning, disease registries, advisory boards, training programs, investigator-sponsored research and other specific projects involving key opinion leaders. Priority is given to the strategic direction and execution of the global MPS registry program.

The ideal candidate will have experience and proven success in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry, with a medical affairs or medical communications background. This experience should include developing strong working relationships with key opinion leaders, medical communications, product strategy and life cycle management, and training and support of colleagues in other functions. The candidate should have a working knowledge of all areas of product lifecycle management, from pre-clinical development through post-approval marketing.

The candidate must possess superb written and verbal communication skills and will be required to give frequent oral and written presentations to internal and external audiences on the medical and clinical aspects of a given disease, product, or program. A successful candidate must also be able to critically interpret cutting edge science and determine the potential impact of new research on medical thinking and practice, and have the ability to use scientific and clinical data to formulate conceptual frameworks and disease management approaches. The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced team environment, and must be well-organized, able to both develop project strategies and execute project details. The Director will be highly entrepreneurial, confident, and personable, and must have the ability to successfully develop and lead high-functioning teams within a highly matrixed organizational structure. Candidates must possess ethical standards of the highest level and have the knowledge and ability to comply with all relevant ethical, regulatory, and legal standards.

Qualifications

  • MD degree required combined with a minimum of 3+ of Medical Affairs experience.

  • Working knowledge or training in the areas of epidemiology, biostatistics and health economics.

  • Cross cultural experience is highly valued.

  • Ability to interact with internal and external experts as a peer
