Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) can significantly speed up drug discovery and development and shorten identification of the right patients for clinical trials thereby creating better medicines that save lives. AI and Deep Analytics (AIDA) is a critical group in Digital and Data Science (DDS) organization at Sanofi R&D focused on applications of AI/ML and Deep Learning (DL) in Precision Medicine, Digital Pathology, in silico drug design, digital health and extracting of knowledge and insights from documents.
Our existing research and development areas include Bioinformatics applied to analysis of the single-cell sequences, spatial transcriptomics, and multi-omics data for biomarker discovery, target identification, and patient stratification; de novo design of multispecific antibodies; Deep Learning-based biomarker discovery from histopathology images; natural language processing (NLP), digital signal processing (DSP) and machine learning applied to digital health and patient-generated data from wearables.
We are seeking a Director of Data Science specializing in Bioinformatics and Precision Medicine in the AIDA Group .
The successful candidate will manage a small group of Bioinformatics and Bioimaging scientists working closely with precision immunology, precision oncology, translational medicine, and early development at Sanofi R&D.
The candidate will directly report to the Global Head of AI and Deep Analytics at Sanofi R&D. The head of AIDA is an experienced Data Scientist with a PhD and Master’s degree from MIT and over 25 years of experience in machine learning applications in life sciences and technology.
The responsibilities of the director of data science in AI and Deep Analytics will include:
Applying AI/ML algorithms to tasks such as classification, clustering, prediction, dimensionality reduction, data visualization, relationship discovery, and causal inference.
Close interactions with other data scientists in AIDA as well as scientists in immunology, oncology, and translational medicine
Update and report relevant results to interdisciplinary project teams and stakeholders
Maintain a keen awareness of recent developments in data science and precision medicine
Active engagement in evaluation and coordination of both academic and startup collaborations
Qualifications & Requirements:
A PhD degree (and preferably a postdoc) in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Engineering Sciences, and Applied Mathematics
+10 years of industry experience with a strong record of accomplishments and project experience in systems biology and/or precision medicine
Strong familiarity with core concepts in Machine Learning and Statistical Analysis
Familiarity with Data Visualization and dimensionality reduction algorithms
Proficiency in Python or R, SQL databases
Ability to develop, benchmark and apply predictive algorithms to identify novel biomarkers, dissect gene/disease relationships and generate hypotheses
Experience with Bayesian analysis and causal inference
A change agent with a combination of business, science & technology, and diplomatic skills
