Sanofi Group Associate Director Global Transactions in Cambridge, Massachusetts
Sanofi’s Global Transactions Team is part of Global Business Development & Licensing within the Sanofi Partnering department.
The main focus of this position is to lead and manage transaction execution with a strategic mindset, across Sanofi’s businesses and R&D units. Transactions will include opportunities across the entire drug development value chain, from discovery to commercial products. The role requires the application of portfolio strategy, business insight and industry knowledge to strengthen and expand Sanofi’s pipeline as well as existing business. The position maintains a close relationship and coordination with other Sanofi Partnering colleagues and internal stakeholders globally and regionally.
The position reports to the Head of Global Transactions.
Manage execution of transactions and agreements across therapeutic areas and across drug development value chain (discovery, platform, pre-clinical, Phase 1-3, and commercial products) for strategic alliances, collaborations, in-licensing, co-development/commercialization, co- promotions, restructurings, substantive alliance amendments, clinical trial supply agreements, and the like), including managing negotiations together with other BD&L colleague as needed. As part of managing transactions:
Support strategy, business case development, financial modeling, valuation, due diligence, leading deal structuring and leading negotiations to deliver executed deals.
Manage business relationships and counsel business partners, internally and externally, on transaction and strategic issues
Support (and lead if appropriate) presentations to senior management during dedicated decision-making committees.
Manage (and lead if appropriate) term sheets and agreement negotiations with counsel.
Manage (and lead if appropriate) executed deal transition, including post-mortem analysis and formal meeting, to transition each deal to business owners and alliance management as needed.
Draw on central teams for legal, finance, IP and due diligence support as needed.
Promote cross-functional collaboration within Sanofi Partnering, especially with therapeutic area business development and external innovation leads, as well as with internal business partners (R&D, Commercial, Finance, Legal, IP, Manufacturing, etc.) to establish and maintain necessary governance, processes, corporate priorities and guidelines.
Develop and maintain relationships with wide array of industry participants.
BA or BS required, MBA or advanced degree preferred.
2 or more year(s) of experience in a business development and licensing role in life sciences desired, with appropriate deal list of substantive business development and/or M&A transactions in life sciences.
4 or more years of pharmaceutical/biotech industry experience with prior background in business development, management consulting, venture capital, transactions advisory, or investment banking desirable.
Oncology, Immunology or Rare Disease portfolio strategy or transaction strategy experience preferred.
Understanding of finance and accounting desired.
Broad cross-functional experience with demonstrated exposure to, and knowledge of, R&D, commercial, finance, legal, and intellectual property, preferred.
Ability to lead and direct cross-functional groups to accomplish corporate goals.
Experience in negotiating or interacting directly with scientific, commercial and other senior management executives from the pharmaceutical and biotech industry desired.
Experience working in a matrix environment with track record of accountability and execution.
Analytically minded and detail oriented
Strong collaboration (teamwork), problem solving, organizational, and interpersonal/executive communication (verbal/written) skills.
Gains commitment from and build consensus among team members and other colleagues to act and deliver on strategic priorities, plans, and goals.
Successful experience in fast-paced entrepreneurial environment – take action without being told.
Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally approximately 20-30% of the time to Sanofi companies and external partner sites, as well as to industry conferences.
