Sanofi Group Alliance Manager, Sanofi Genzyme in Cambridge, Massachusetts

The Alliance Manager is the primary alliance management interface between assigned alliance partners and Sanofi. The Alliance Manager supports value creation and risk minimization for assigned alliances and licenses and provides overall coordination with the different operational units and functional experts within Sanofi as well as with the Alliance partners.

The Alliance Manager needs to possess the experience and ability to support execution consistent with the terms of the applicable contract(s) and to give sound and balanced feedback to stakeholders in connection to issues requiring alignment or dispute resolution.

In addition, this requires a self-starter mentality, strong organizational skills, knowledge of the various customer segments and their needs, the ability to identify and execute on business priorities and customer insights, the ability to forge productive partnerships and driving cross-functional and cross-national teams towards results without direct reporting lines.

Key Responsibilities:

The alliance manager will be responsible for all activities required to ensure effective management of a portfolio consisting of, R&D alliances (potentially including clinical trial and supply collaborations), licenses that continue to have Sanofi and/or partner contractual obligations, as well as future alliances as may be assigned, including:

  • Serving as the central point of contact for the assigned alliances throughout their existence.

  • Realizing alliance value while minimizing their risks through proactive management of contract execution, identification of potential areas of misalignment, and providing recommendations on potential mitigation measures.

  • Ensuring that Sanofi’s interests are secured while maintaining a constructive working relationship with the Partners.

  • Ensuring compliance with contractual provisions and rights jointly with Legal, Commercial Operations, IA, and R&D.

  • Managing the alliance governance, ensuring internal alignment of Sanofi committee members and effective decision making of the governance bodies.

  • Facilitate and support the execution of work assigned by the respective management committees.

  • Identify changes and make adjustments and/or recommendations to the governance structure as needed to optimize the effectiveness of the alliance.

  • Creating a collaborative work environment between parties, identifying ways to optimally work together, resolving issues, finding consensus, and building trust.

  • Managing disagreements and disputes, seeking to minimize conflict, and avoiding contract and litigation risks.

  • Conducting periodic health assessments of the alliances to recognize opportunities and address problems or potential conflicts at an early stage.

  • Maintaining alliance data and documents (e.g.: in Bali)

  • Serving as the internal knowledge expert on the relevant Partners and identifying information that may impact the alliance.

  • Briefing Sanofi management as required for reporting of results, managing escalations, or as preparation for 1-1 discussions with Partner management outside of normal governance.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS/BA or equivalent in life sciences is required;business degree (MBA) /preferred.

  • Minimum of five years’ biopharma or related experience; minimum of two years in alliance management, program management or relationship management in R&D or other relevant functions.

  • Proven diplomatic and interpersonal skills: ability to listen, interpret and respond to critical information.

  • Comfortable interacting with senior management in written and verbal communications.

  • Highest level of confidentiality to information that may be sensitive and material for either or both, Sanofi and the Alliance Partners.

  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate and resolve issues in order to mitigate risk and achieve objectives while working across multiple teams in a matrix environment.

  • Prepared to undertake national and international travel as necessary.

  • R&D operational and Management teams including all research and development TAs (I&I, Oncology, Rare disease… but excluding Sanofi Pasteur perimeter), Sanofi Genzyme GBU management team as well as all Commercial, Medical, functions

  • Sanofi Alliance Management functions

  • Business Development, Corporate Finance, Corporate Legal and Industrial Affairs functions

Reporting to:

  • The position will report to the Head of Alliance Management Rare Disease, Rare Blood Disorders and Neurology, with a dotted reporting line to the Head of R&D, Global Health and China Alliances.
