Sanofi Group Head, Winthrop Established Products in Bridgewater, New Jersey

As Head, Winthrop, this individual will be responsible for the Winthrop portfolio strategy, financials, investment and resource plan to support the Winthrop Generic Business, including Winthrop’s current private label and Authorized Generic portfolio, as well as, leading Winthrop’s Life Cycle Management strategy in line with GEM’s Global portfolio strategy. This role will be responsible to develop the Winthrop strategy and annual operational plan to ensure US commercial success as we continue to shape the NA GEM portfolio. S/He is responsible for building Winthrop’s commercial competency and lead development and execution of annual operational plan. This includes ensuring strategic alignment with the GEM Global, GEM MM and GEM NA organizational and established product strategy, leadership and development of the Winthrop team and accountability for development and management of the established product P&L to achieve profitability and financial targets. Reporting to the Head of the NA GEM General Medicine and Established Products, this person will serve as a key member of the NA GEM Leadership Team as the team continues to transform our business to creating value for patients, customers and Sanofi.

This role is responsible for building and executing the Established Products strategic and operational business plans to build a sustainable business to optimize sustained revenue growth and profitability. This will require strategic capabilities, financial acumen, executional excellence, portfolio management, market shaping and change management leadership skills. Broad established product commercial knowledge and experience will enable this leader to build, align and implement the cross functional strategic plans.

This individual will oversee Winthrop’s generic retail and wholesale business including management of the Winthrop Sales team that interfaces directly with customers, and collaborate with our National Specialty Accounts team to maximize our business in the hospital and LTC market segments, key stakeholders in Pricing and Contracting/Contract Development to develop and execute bids and contracts, and transversally partner with key stakeholders across Trade, Supply Chain, Finance, Forecasting, Customer Service, Legal, Regulatory, Medical and Quality.

Life cycle management and portfolio shaping is a critical component to success to compete in a dynamic and changing pharmaceutical industry. Managing the business to optimal performance will require extensive early commercial assessment experience in close collaboration with IA/CEPIA and Global Functions to identify and launch internal new generic products, identify non-organic authorized generic business development opportunities and partnerships to shape and optimize the Established Products portfolio.

Knowledge of the US generics and established product market is critical and innovation/entrepreneurial skills as asset in transforming the GEM portfolio toward accelerated and profitable growth given the changing U.S. generic and managed care environment, increasing competitive environment. Success will involve building the organizations competencies and capabilities to deliver executional excellence across internal systems and platforms that will allow Winthrop to scale moving forward.

  • Ensure complete implementation of new generic Integra-chain data (852 / 867) reports and effectively utilize these reports to work closely with Customer Service and NA Supply Chain to anticipate product returns and optimize supply allocation/order fulfillment decisions during times of low internal product inventory.

  • Serve as key Trade point with Wholesalers for Winthrop generics. Strategy and Plans

  • In partnership with NA GEM LT and Global Commercial Teams, lead Winthrop and Established Product portfolio and strategic planning to ensure all elements of the annual operational plan are designed and executed with precision and excellence.

  • Develop and deploy strategies to achieve business and brand life cycle management and annual brand plan goals, accelerate profitable growth, market share leadership and cash flow consistent with BU goals and the long term strategic plans of the company and accelerate Winthrop U.S. growth.

  • Responsible for overall Joint Health and Renal life cycle management, brand strategy, annual operational plans, financial planning, and investment mix

  • Serve as the primary US GEM interface for US and Global Sanofi counterparts and Global and accountable for execution of the US GEM portfolio and brand strategy

  • Develop and lead the WLB brand strategic & tactical business planning process

  • Proactively shape the customer and market environment, develop customer/channel marketing strategies based on deep customer insights to position our products and create value for company and our patients/customers, build account management capabilities to defend and improve our market position and depth of access by delivering strong, value based solutions to customers and stakeholders.

Deliver our Financial Commitments

  • Develop, manage and achieve sales, profit, market share and cash flow targets within agreed budgets

  • Oversee the forecasting, financial and scenario planning for US GEM Winthrop and Established Products

Monitoring and Control

  • Establish annual business objectives and key performance objectives to effectively monitor and proactively adapt to optimize business and brand performance

  • Establish robust business and financial scenario planning and monitoring processes in place to drive efficiency and scalability of internal processes and systems

  • Ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness of all aspects of the business. Manage budget and resource reallocation to ensure ROI optimized

  • Develop and leverage Market Tracking Tools to identify/anticipate and ensure product supply continuity for Established Products portfolio

External Relations

  • Ensure promotional activities are in compliance with guidelines and regulations

  • Develop and strengthen strategic relationships with customers (e.g. physicians, group practices, pharmacies, KOLs and payors) to support medical and commercial activities in alignment with compliance guidelines to drive market leadership and position Sanofi as a partner of choice

  • Close collaboration and partnership with US One Sanofi team to ensure strength and value of Sanofi is optimized in the US market

People and Organization

  • Minimum of 7 years of generics and/or established products commercial experience with responsibility to establish a strategic vision and annual operational plan to achieve short and long term business and financial results

  • Deep knowledge of the US generic and established products market and environment, with understanding of US regulatory pathways, distribution channels and key customer segments

  • Experience building and leading commercial teams with responsibilities for business development, contracting and tendering, commercial operations and life cycle management experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated analytic and strategic skills to establish and ensure robust business planning, forecasting and financial and scenario planning processes support an agile and changing external market landscape

  • Track record of success delivering results thorough collaborating with local and global cross-functional teams across Marketing, Sales, Trade, R&D, Medical Affairs, Business Development, Life Cycle Management, Finance, Forecasting, Compliance, Legal and Quality

  • Oversee development of product pricing recommendations in line with internal pricing policies for all classes of trade including retail, wholesale, mail order, GPO, and specialty classes

  • Experience leading portfolio planning process, including early commercial assessment for established products, peri-LOE transition, established product launch experience

  • Strong key account management competencies with extensive experience establishing and managing relationships with key US established products customers, stakeholder and decision makers

  • Responsible to set departmental priorities and objectives, resource allocation, KPIs, monitoring and reporting in keeping with an agile business and profitability goals

  • Proven change management leadership experience to build organizational established products commercial competency and capabilities, streamline internal processes to ensure efficiencies and workforce engagement to deliver results thorough a high performance culture.
