Job title: Head of NA Regional Procurement Outsourcing (External Manufacturing)

Location : Chattanooga / Bridgewater

Reporting to this position: Country Buyers

Job purpose

Act as Procurement Regional Category Manager, External Manufacturing North America. Ensure that regional performance meets expectations on fundamentals HSE/Sustainability, Quality, Sanofi Manufacturing System, Supply) while carrying out strategic initiatives / projects according to plans (life cycle management, COGS improvement initiatives, products launches/switches, talent attraction and retention, development). Serve as a key point of contact for the NA Regional Procurement Head & NA leads of CHC IA and Marketing & Sales

Key Accountabilities


  • Implement & execute competitive and innovative Procurement category strategies:

  • based on market intelligence: assessing risks and opportunities

  • Budget & Strategic Plan fully aligned with Business while delivering added value

  • Lead, manage and coordinate the overall collaboration, communication and interactions with

  • the External Manufacturing Committee and Business Partner

    • Ensure expected performance and objectives are met
    • Issues are dealt with in a timely manner and escalated as required
  • Continuously drive improvements in performance of the Supplier/CMOs in all relevant areas of Safety, Quality, Cost and Delivery

  • Drive the development of new market opportunities (new suppliers, technologies, substitution products, etc.)

Contract & Relationship Management

  • Ensure compliance with master service agreements and/or specific contracts in place

  • Ensure that terms and conditions of master service agreements and/or specific contracts,

  • including the Quality Technical agreement (QTA) are met by all parties in the contract

  • Monitor the contract life cycle and proactively manage negotiation phases with involved operational teams (i) in the set-up of a contract or (ii) request of quotation (RFQ) related to a strategic supplier/CMO

  • Ensure that risk management assessment and risk mitigation strategies are in place in close collaboration with the Business

  • Set-up and drive a Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) program at regional level

Business Collaboration & Partnering

  • Take on the key role player for US Leadership team, ComOps and IA

  • Facilitate and build collaborative Business Partnering across the Business Unit internally and across the Supplier/CMO network

  • Build and maintain strong interfaces and collaborations with other departments like finance, legal, regulatory, business development, licensing, and alliances & partnerships

People Management

  • Manage and develop a team and provide the right direction and guidance regarding their specific supplier management and partnership activities, own objectives


  • Regional Procurement, External Manufacturing North America

  • Spend: 150 M€ p.a. and expanding

  • Complexity: North America, 30+ Suppliers/CMOs

Expected Competencies

Education & Experience

  • University degree in Pharmaceutical engineering/process, Business Administration, Procurement, Supply Chain or equivalent

  • At least 10 years’ experience in a Management or Transversal role with proven record in term of change management and result delivery - plus experience in Consumer Health Care or FMCG

  • Extensive leadership skills/experience with proven track record in building and leading cross functional teams

  • Capability to manage business and interact with executive level: internal stakeholders, Suppliers/CMOs and complex environment

  • Strong business acumen and ability to build sustainable business connectivity

  • Experience in Procurement, Contract management, Project management

Language & Cultural

  • Fluent in English

  • Plus: Spanish, Portuguese, French, German

  • International and multi-cultural mind set
